Announcing our new Entrepreneur in Residence program

Over the past year the Neighborhood Studios team has tried many ways to engage with founders who might launch a startup with us one day.
We began with 90-minute sessions where we bring in a founder and walk through our top ideas. Then we tried a monthly session for founders to come into the studio and dive deep into a single idea on a regular basis.
Despite our efforts, we felt something was missing.
The Neighborhood Studios process is designed to explore lots and lots of opportunities and then whittle that list down to just a few over time. Viable ideas emerge from our process when a unique insight survives our internal process and we can determine the right product entry point to test.
A great deal of effort goes into our best ideas over a 6–12 month period.
Now that we have a full year’s worth of data about our process, we know that less than 1% of ideas survive our internal studio process.
Due to this rigorous internal process, it’s difficult to explain to someone outside of the studio the depth of our insight into an idea in a single session. Or even multiple sessions.
Enter our Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) program.
Designed to immerse potential founders into the heart of Neighborhood Studios to see if there’s a good fit. If so, we can launch a studio company together. If not, no biggie — we got to know each other and we got to help a great founder along their journey.
Here’s what we have in mind…
- Duration: It’s flexible. We anticipate each EIR spending 1–2 days weekly with us for about 1–2 months, but there’s no concrete end date as long as we are both excited and seeing momentum.
- Engagement: Dive deep into existing studio ideas, partake in pivotal studio meetings, and bond with the studio team.
- Resources: EIRs will have a desk & monitor right next to the rest of the team (our desks and monitors are amazing btw) and complete access to all of the studio resources.
- Flexibility: Balancing another job? No worries. Our program welcomes all, from those with full-time commitments to those with open schedules.
- Experience: We don’t have a preference between experienced founders and first-time founders. In the past year we’ve been in active discussions with first-time founders and founders who currently run startups worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
- Ideas: We are open to founders coming into the program with existing ideas as long as the idea is a fit with our thesis and the founder is excited about the idea going through our studio process.
- Bonus: Even if we don’t end up working together, we have some great ways to support and mentor founders in an ongoing way after you leave the program.
We plan to only have one or two EIRs in the studio at any one time, so we will be highly selective.
We try to share as much as possible about our thesis and process, so browse around the Neighborhood Studios website and blog.
